Cheap Wine Wins Again

When it comes to us Average Joes and our wine drinking, we are again reminded that the cheap stuff is often the best choice.

Recently, Winedom ran a post about perception and wine. It showed that people given wine and told it is expensive will enjoy it more. This is because we are conditioned, from childhood, to believe that more expensive products are better. Winedom also reported, though, that many of the wines bringing home medals at reputable competitions are cheap, grocery store brands.

This great video from Vox further proves that cheap(er) wine is often a great option.

What’s Old Is New: Retro Wine Is Hip

Wine is trendy.

It has been for a few decades now as it becomes more accessible to everyday people who want to drink decent quality wine at affordable prices. It permeates movies and television shows and has become the replacement for trendy cocktails. And like all trends, there are cycles. So while new wines are emerging every day and offering new grapes, or old grapes done in a new way, we are also seeing people dust off the wines of their parents and bringing them back into style. Right now, it’s 1970’s wine that’s cool. Here are a few to try out along with suggested pairings and our guesses as to other wines we’ll be seeing a resurgence in over the next year or two.
The cool kids are often found sporting styles from long ago – just look around you the next time you’re out and you’re sure to find high schoolers rocking 70’s inspired styles be they bohemian headbands and sundresses or flared jeans. The older crowd is wearing Raybans and drinking Pabst. The cool bands are using heavy instrumentation, organs, and heavy guitar to bring back that seventies sound. Believe it or not, the trend doesn’t only apply to clothing. Have you noticed fondue restaurants popping up in your city? Fondue was hugely popular in the 70’s. And it’s back. Same with deviled eggs, which have made a huge resurgence at parties and all over Pinterest. It’s not surprising, then, that people are dusting off the the old wines with the fondue pots and exploring those pairings.

A Tool for your Toolkit, how to remove Red Wine Stains

There’s nothing worse than spilling wine. Here’s a new way to clean it up that you’ve probably never thought of but has the science behind it to prove that it works.

Red wine is a culprit in many types of stains: carpet, clothes, teeth, and countertops to name a few. Just as it leaves many types of stains there are also many old wives tales about how to clean it up, ranging from windex to white wine. Yes, white wine. Oddly enough, white wine isn’t that far off the mark.

Next time you spill white on the carpet, head to the bar to make the stain disappear without a trace but don’t grab a bottle of Chardonnay! Instead, look for a clear liquor like vodka or gin. Pour the spirit directly onto the stain and sop it up by applying pressure to the wet stain with a rag, old tee shirt or paper towels if you have nothing else on hand.
